Backstreet Responsive WordPress Theme Review

Backstreet is a mobile friendly theme for WordPress by themeforest. Theme is feature rich and suitable for any kind of WordPress site. The theme has stunning look and it’s promising to give greatest user experience for readers.

Features

This is one of the most feature rich themes I’ve seen recently. Probably is the best among them. This theme makes sure you get everything out of your WordPress installation. It’s using almost everything that WordPress offers as a blogging software or CMS.

Post Formats and Custom Post Types

Backstreet has 3 other post formats to go with 3 post templates. Post formats are a way to virtually categorize your posts as video, audio or a gallery. If you move your mouse over a post image in demo page above, you can clearly see this feature in action. Image will be fading and a post format icon will be visible.

3 templates are Spotlight, Portfolio and Gallery. You can choose from any of these templates to populate your post. All three templates have its own design related to its name.

The theme also has a built-in review system. It’s using WordPress custom post types. You are allowed to rate items depending on 5 criteria, and overall score and criteria based scores will be displayed in the review page in a professional fashion. Just like the review box at end of this page.

More than 10 Custom Widgets

The author claimed it has 15 widgets. But to my standards, some of them can’t call as custom widgets. But I like what I get. You don’t need to go out and search for plugins to display recent posts and related posts. Those are built in to the theme and completely in design of the theme. Below are theme widgets what I like to call widgets.

  • Ads (300×250 and 600×90)
  • Facebook Like box
  • Flickr widget
  • Latest Reviews
  • Recent Posts
  • Search Widget
  • Social Counter
  • Sidebar Tabs (Popular, Comments & Tags)
  • Video Widget
  • Recent Tweets

Ads widget may not work as you like. You can’t paste ad codes from AdSense or any other ad network to it. It only has two fields for image and url. Sidebar tabs widget is not customizable, it only displays what it says it’ll display.

More than 10 Custom Page Templates

Backstreet has few more page templates to add to Spotlight, Portfolio and Gallery, I mentioned before. These are mainly for customizing site design. Theme features one sidebar and you are allowed to have it on left or right, or you can even serve page without a sidebar if you prefer.

It also has custom 404 error page, built in contact form for your contact page and 4 designs to choose from for your blog page. You are allowed to use your home page in either magazine style or one of 4 blog styles. And you can switch it any time.

Shortcodes

Backstreet is rich in shortcodes as well. It has shortcodes to display alerts, columns, Google maps, YouTube videos, Buttons, check lists, tabs, toggles and many more. This surely will remove another plugin from your site.

What’s in the Package

You’ll get a ZIP file when you buy this theme. The ZIP file will include PSD file for all images used in the theme, a quick starter guide with all information on how to install theme and tune settings, theme files and license info.

Mobile Friendly Responsive Design

With continuously rising smart phone and tablet surfers around the world, it’s important you make your site mobile friendly to satisfy mobile readers. The best solution is making your site responsive to mobile devices. Google has also confirmed it recently. Backstreet is completely responsive to mobile devices. And it also has an option to turn responsive design on or off.

Final Words

Backstreet is an awesome theme for WordPress. I have no hesitation recommending it to anyone. It is suitable for any type of website from business, affiliate, reviews, photo blog, and video blog to personal blog. Author is consistently updating it with new features and he’s available to any of your questions. All I have to say is ‘totally worth the money’.
